This Kodiak will bite
Beneath the zodiacal light.
A bony brat can fight
But teeth will redden with the night.
A cheetah can defeat
Retreating feet by limb so fleet.
The bleat of fleeing meat
Is pleading, "Leave--please do not eat."
A man can build a lie
Enough to shield his life, deny
The price it takes to try
Applying rule he won't defy.
When oysters lift a spear
The shafted weapon won't revere
How cells wish to appear,
A hole in sternum will be clear.
fun, yet profound...and who can say that eh Jack?
ReplyDeleteKind of nightmarish little vignettes. That's a good thing, though!
ReplyDeleteI like the second stanza the best. That cheetah is cute but rather mean! Great poem.
ReplyDeleteDo you do poetry slams? :-)
ReplyDeleteI do not. I'm not sure if I would, either.
DeleteJack, you should at least do readings. Slams... eh, they are more about performance from what I've seen. But, then again, you have an amazing voice and great timing, so yes, I agree- you should slam.
