C.T. Rathbun, Youth Pastor (or Nineteen and Thirteen)

God meant to spare him, but kept him alive.
Prior extension does not mean he'll thrive.
I do the work from which deities run:
Vengeance so perfect the payoff will stun.

Fucker.  He fucked her.  A child he fucked.
Penis.  Vagina.  No symbols.  They fucked.
Legally framing the ages they were,
What he enjoyed was the raping of her.

It was unnerving to recently hear
Pastoring children became his career.
Husband and father, defiler of kid--
Title refined by the wronging he did.

  1. You've hit on the biggest problem, it's not the crime (as heinous as it is), it's the knowing promotion of the criminals, as if they are being rewarded for doing a good job.

I looked up the name to see if it was real, and I found someone totally unrelated but interesting, a self-styled "Martin Luther of Scientology":

  5. Wow! Very strong, very raw. For some reason while reading I could "taste" the strongness. Don't ask how. It's like that burn one feels when they take a shot of vodka and for seconds after they're speechless. Mind you, that's a compliment.

  6. Tell it, Jack. So hard to vet people working with kids. Your disdain is evident, and as a survivor of childhood sexual abuse myself, I share your view that this man is everything God does not want. And probably the first to point the finger at gays, birth control, abortion. It's all about power. Talked about being pastored by a bastard. Peace, Amy

  7. This is chilling! The abuser is not easily seen as one. In most instances they are known to the victim. Good to bring it out in the open, Jack!

  9. Yikes, you wrote poem as strongly as such a poem should be written. How awful that things like this continue to go on and often the perpetrators are unpunished.

  10. You tackled a tough topic and wrote it strongly and well.

  11. Strong piece for a strong subject. I despise abusers of children, so thanks for tackling this issue.

  12. Sometimes this starkness of words is needed to bring abuse into focus. Very apt when we consider the hunt that is happening this weekend for the body of 5 year-old April Jones.
It's sad that all men must be cast in doubt because of a few, but that's the way it goes. Trust no-one.

  13. Well said Jack, shame this runs rampantly and so many close their eyes to truth.

  14. Powerful write. I'm glad you didn't couch the crime in ambiguous or fuzzy words and images. You just say it, shout it, demand this kind of horror stops. Well done.

  15. Well done! This should be shouted. It's unbelievable how much of this exists. Thank you!

  16. Such a powerful piece Jack. I was just thinking about this in the context of the Catholic Church the other day--your piece hits hard--as it should
